Organised by
Southend Round
Table, the first
ever Moonlight
Colourthon took
place last
Saturday raising
£150,000 for
charities near
and far. Over
1100 brightly
dressed walkers
left Westcliff
Chalkwell Park
at 8pm to
walk the
challenging 13.1
mile course
taking in the
sights and
sounds of
Southend by
night. During
the afternoon
many walked
around Chalkwell
Park in the
Sunlight
Colourthon
raising over
£3000 in just a
few hours.
The main walk
was officially
started by Lloyd
Scott MBE, who
is better known
for his London
Marathon efforts
in a deep sea
diver suit or as
Indiana Jones.
Since running
for charity,
Lloyd himself
has raised over
£5 million
pounds and
because of this
was the natural
choice to start
the charity
focused
Moonlight
Colourthon.
When
registering, all
walkers were
invited to
nominate a
registered
charity that
they would raise
money for. As a
result, over 200
charities will
now benefit from
the first ever
Moonlight
Colourthon.

Lead orgainser
and the creator
of the
Colourthon,
Julian Hart
said. "This is
everything I
hoped and
planned for.
Never in my
wildest dreams
did I think that
the event would
generate so much
money for
charity. The
site of 1100
walkers
participating in
the David Lloyd
official warm up
was amazing.
Although,
nothing could
top the site of
all the walkers
as they lined up
for the start,
especially as
everyone looked
fantastic and
appeared to be
having so much
fun. I have
belonged to
Round Table for
many years and
this by far was
the highlight of
my tabling
career."
"Feedback from
entrants so far
has been very
encouraging,
with many
telling me how
safe and
organised they
thought the
event was. I
have not
discussed this
with my fellow
tablers, but I
think it's safe
to say that the
Moonlight
Colourthon will
now become a
regular event in
the Southend
calendar."
"The list of
thank you's is a
long one as
events such as
this one require
a lot of
support. In
particular, I
would like to go
on record and
thank KeyMed,
David Lloyd
Centre, Essex
Boatyards,
Steve's Van
Hire, Essex and
Suffolk Water,
BBC Essex, 41
Club, Ladies
Circle, The
Scouts, C2C,
Arriva, St John
Ambulance, Essex
Police and
Southend
Council."
