Sports Festival 2008
Round Tablers from
South Woodham Ferrers, recently
organised for local primary school
children their hugely popular
Festival of Sport, raising an
impressive £1500 to be donated to
boosting sport in local primary
schools. The event was kindly
supported and hosted by the William
de Ferrers School and South Woodham
Leisure Centre.
The Festival of Sport, now in its
third year, was bigger and better
than previous years, with eight
local primary schools taking part in
Football, Hoopball, Netball & TAG
Rugby. The children were accompanied
by hundreds of teachers, parents and
relatives.
In addition to these sports, there
were other demonstrations for the
large crowd. The South Woodham BMX
Club came down to show off some
tricks and to inform the children
and adults about how to join them.
Proud sponsors, Club Woodham
introduced everyone to a new sport –
Dodgeball. The interest was so
great, this may well be a new event
for next year at the Festival.
Lead organiser for Round Table,
Graham Pretty said. “I look forward
to this event so much every year. We
have worked hard to grow the
Festival this year and get more
schools involved. Watching all the
smiling faces and sporting talent on
display really makes it all
worthwhile. On behalf of Round
Table, I’d like to thank all our
sponsors and supporters – Asda,
Palmers Solicitors, Club Woodham,
Chelmsford Borough Council, South
Woodham Ferrers Rugby Club and the
William De Ferrers School.”
“Above all, Round Table would like
to thank the pupils, parents, and
staff from all the schools for
making the event so successful.
Although, the main aim of the event
was for everyone to have fun, there
were trophies for the winners and
every competitor received a medal
for getting involved and making the
Festival such a spectacle.”
